As usual, one edge is slightly uneven from being removed from the binding. This is an original hand-colored print - #141 - from the royal octavo first edition of John James Audubon's Birds of America, published 1840-1844. The first octavo edition was produced under the direct supervision of John James Audubon and features strictly hand-coloring. The credits are in BLOCK LETTERS, as required, for royal octavos numbered 1-150. Gorgeous upper tier print, and one of the largest images in the entire octavo edition. Additionally, this is one of the prints that Bowen shopped out to Endicott when printing became rushed in 1841, and the credits are to Endicott, New York rather than Bowen, Phila, a first edition distinguishing point.
