Description: Just one of inkFrog's Creations Description: Antique 1919 Silver Enamel Charm Percy Fearson Political Cartoon Character 'Dally' This is a very unusual historical charm featuring a cartoon character named 'Dally' from the political cartoon series 'Dilly and Dally' which was published in the Daily Mail of London, England. The creator of the series, and many others through various political news chronicles in England, was Percy Fearson. Fearson went by the pen name 'Poy,' a derivative of his first name. Apparently the New Yorkers he studied with while attending art school in New York pronounced his name as 'Poycee.' During his 34-year career, he illustrated 10,000 cartoons including characters such as 'John Citizen,' 'Cuthbert' (a World War I conscientious objector), 'Dilly' and 'Dally,' who represented the Civil Service, and 'Dora.'The charm still bears some of the original enamel, though much of it has worn away. The measurement is 1 and 1/4 of an inch by 3/8 of an inch. Structurally, the charm is in good shape with no dents or damage. The back of the charm bears the registry date number 666948, which dates it to 1919, and the cartoonist's name 'Poy.' It is made of .925 sterling silver.
