Description: Maker: The long history of the Czech porcelain maker Pirkenhammer began in 1803 when Friedrich Hölke and Johann Gotlob List created the Friedrich Höcke manufactory in Pirkenhammer, Bohemia, near the major porcelain producing center of Karlsbad, now known as Karlovy Vary. The town of Pirkenhammer is now called Brezona, Czech Republic. The company quickly earned a reputation for excellence. Through mergers and acquisitions, the company became known as Fischer & Mieg in 1852 and retained that name until 1908, when Wilhelm and Viktor Maier took over. After more ownership changes, the factory became part of the Epiag group of porcelain makers in 1918. It's still in business. Source: theoldstuff.com Marks and age: A green crossed hammers Pirkenhammer Brezova mark appears on the back of this elegant reticulated or pierced plate along with the impressed letters F&M, for Fischer & Mieg. The Brezova mark was in use from 1893 to 1918. That dates the plate’s production to between 1893 and 1908, when the Fischer & Mieg name was retired. So this plate is at least 115 years old and perhaps older. Design: A large gold medallion is at the center of a fine white porcelain plate accented with raised gold dots and an octagonal reticulated or pierced band. It's the pattern that replacements.com calls EP1425. Condition: The plate is in overall excellent condition with no marks, nicks, chips, cracks, stains, discoloration, crazing, repairs or significant wear. The gold trim and medallion have light wear and minor scratches - it can be seen in the photos. Size: The plate is 9 1/8 inches wide and weighs 13.3 ounces. Please check all the photos very carefully - they are an important part of the description.
