Description: From a local estate auction: a Art Nouveau teapot. This is James W. Tufts quadruple plate with the model number is 1946. It has the most amazing style, with very high-style features and lovely inscribed flowers. The teapot spout is made to look like a fish, as shown, and the handle is an exaggerated design . The lid has an asymmetric curve with leaves and pendant flowers to offer visual balance to the handle. On the rounded body there are bright-cut poppy flowers and leaves on both sides, as shown . Interesting: when searching for comparable teapots I found some versions of this teapot WITHOUT the incised flower designs. On one side near the spout there is a large monogram that looks to me like IH? IK? JH? JK? as shown in closeup. I think the style reflects the earliest of Art Nouveau with some aesthetic period touches. That large looped handle is very dramatic. The silver plate on this is in good condition with no black spots or worn-off areas. However, the base of this pot has been banged in, as shown in the last photos. This may be repairable by a jeweler, but since it's on the very bottom it is easily ignored. The style of this is so remarkable that it displays beautifully. While I was looking for comparable teapots I was able to find other pieces of this set for sale, so there's a chance of acquiring the whole tea set. This one is really special.
