Description: ANTIQUE FRENCH SILVERED BRONZE HONOR MEDAL PENDANT MARIANNE PHRYGIAN CAP 1880’s This antique French pendant features a silvered bronze Honor Medal issued by the Ministry of the Interior. The medal bears the image of Marianne (symbol of the French Republic) wearing a laurel headband and a Phrygian cap (symbol of the French Revolution). The medal is toned (raised portion of shinier silver on a shaded ground) and dates to the 3rd Republic circa 1880-1898 or possibly 1901. It can be dated by the cornucopia (corne d’abundance) edge mark of the Paris Mint (Monnaie de Paris) which was in use from 1880-1898 and again in 1901. Fine antique condition. The medal is unused. The cartouche for the recipient’s name is left blank and not engraved.
