It was founded by Gustave de Bruyn, a Belgian born in Louvain in 1838 into a potter's family. Gustave de Bruyn moved to Lille in 1862. It was only two years later that the factory moved to the Fives district. In 1889, the company was rewarded with a silver medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. It had 400 workers on the eve of the First World War.After the conflict, the earthenware factory resumed its activities under the direction of the sons of Gustave de Bruyn. However, it will not regain its previous luster, especially since the crisis of the 1930s will further worsen the situation. The company ceased its activity in 1950.The Bruyn earthenware factory is an example of high-quality industrial production.
