Antique Asian Jewelry Music Box Wood Hand Painted Inlaid Shell Abalone Japan

Description: This listing is for a gorgeous vintage antique wooden hand painted jewelry music box with inlaid mother of pearl shells. The lid opens to a mirror (on the back of the lid) and a lifting tray with two compartments (one with a lid and tassel handle). The bottom of the box has 3 compartments, one of which holds the mechanism for the music box and covered with a lid so the mechanism doesn't show. The box is lined in a blue silky velvet type of fabric which could use a good dusting, and comes with two keys. I did not try them to see if they lock. The music plays very haltingly and I don't recognize the tune. The box measures about 4" -4.25" in height, 8.5" wide, and 6" deep. The whole outer edge of the lid is covered in inlaid shell pieces, as well as some of the painted pictures in the lid and sides, however, there are also indents where shell pieces have come off. There are also worn corners and areas of paint loss, and some buckling of the lacquer, most noticeably on the bottom of the box. Please view all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.
