Description: Hi, we are pleased to offer an original Alton Tobey signed plate study on semi rigid board. Was for a Ghent Collection, Memory Plate for events from 1981. The study art is a working draft of what the artist's thought process, of what the final piece will be. Overall the piece measures 22"x18" and the round art is 16 1/2" wide. Hand signed by Alton Tobey copyright 1982. (the copyright means it went to production). You can see the finished plate and they are available on Ebay. At age 20 he received a scholarship to Yale University, School of Fine Arts. He also became one of the professors. He lived most of his life in Mamaroneck, New York. He has been described as a muralist, portraitist and illustrator whose renders of famous events and faces hang in museums, libraries, public buildings, corporate offices and private collection. Tobey is ranked by the Artists Trade of Russia amongst the worlds-best artists of the last four centuries. Tobey's murals, illustrations, and portraits show him working in the realistic style for which he is best known. Some of his works are displayed at the Smithsonian Institution and other venues in Washington DC. Also Intrepid Sea-Air Space Museum. He was also president of the National Mural Painters from 1984-88. As a realist painter and illustrator, Tobey also was the famous creator of the hundreds of painting which illustrate the twelve volumes of "The Golden Book History of the United States". he was also a commissioned portraitist of many famous figures, including Pope John Paul 11, Robert Frost and Albert Einstein. many of his works are also in the Holocaust Museum.
