Ready for Studio use.This preamp, Tray, Knob and Attenuator were removed from an Altec 250 Mixing board.This sale is for the 9475A Preamp, Altec bakelite Knob, Altec 9852A Mounting Tray and Altec 8323 Type Z 600/600 Ohm Attenuator shown in the photos. The attenuator is connected withoriginal red and green twisted pair wiring from the console.The attenuator controls the output 'volume' and follows the output transformer.Connections to your microphone and recording device are made via the included, balanced XLR connectors.To use this preamp you need a 24 Volt DC power supply, it is fully functional and ready to go. Large "Robot Coil" Transformers. Balanced. Class A, said to be similar to a Langevin AM 16.Lots of gain. Can be used as a Mic preamp or line channel to give your audio extra MOJO.The two original electrolytic power supply capacitors have been replaced. They are not part of the audio path; the original tone of this preamp has not been altered. The transformers are "strapped" for 600-ohm in and 600-ohm out and can be can be changed to 150/150 if desired. I never did an A-B shootout, but I've used these in the studio alongside my API, Neve and other preamps and they are just as useful for anything for I tried them on. I will say this bit of unscientific voodoo…. I ran a CD into a pair of them and the audio coming-out sounded noticeably better, it just did! I use a 'Power One' HC24 power supply for my 24 VDC (at 2.4 amps) Power supply is shown for reference, but not included in sale of preamp. Note about the photos: preamp is shown without screws that hold the shield in place, the screws are included. All photos are of the actual item, taken on the same day.You will NOT be disappointed with this preamp. The value of these preamps (and stuff like this) keeps going UP, it is a good investment, like stock or a good Stratocaster.
