Description: Genuine vintage Chinese Lotus-Flower Brand wood abacus with thirteen bamboo spindles set in an ebony-stained hardwood frame with decorative brass brackets on the corners and the crosspiece. In addition to the divider crosspiece, there are two wood braces in the back (or lower side, if placed horizontally). Each spindle on the abacus holds seven wood beads, two above the crosspiece and five below, for a total of 91 beads. Though this abacus has been used only as a display piece for the past 25 years, it remains a functional calculating device for those with the desire and knowledge to use one. A small metal plaque attached to the upper frame displays Lotus-Flower Brand (with Chinese characters and logo) and Made in the People’s Republic of China (mainland China). Normal wear for a display piece. Good preowned condition with only noted flaw being a vertical crack in one bead. Otherwise, no visible flaws or damage. The abacus is sturdily built with firm joints.
