This postcard is an artifact from a time when American business was run on the efforts of the traveling salesman. Whatever vestiges of this model were still existent by the 1970’s were soon to get dramatically reduced by the computer. The traveling salesman contributed to the economy of the railroads, the automobile industry, and the hotel industry. One of the main functions of the now-gone “downtown hotel” was to house the traveling salesmen.
