Description: Mineral: Azurite partially pseudomorphed to MalachiteLocality: Touissit, Touissit-Bou Beker mining district, Jerada Province, Oriental Region, MoroccoSize: 3.8cm x 3.4cm x 2.6cmWeight: 16g This specimen is a little jewel of an azurite from Morocco. The blades are gem blue when backlight, and have grown upright from a matrix of what also used to be azurite, now pseudomorphed to malachite. Interestingly, some of these crystals are only partially pseudomorphed, showing both malachite and azurite in the same crystal. The mechanism of alteration must have ceased during growth, allowing some of the gem blue blades to remain. Remarkably, the entire specimen is pristine, with no nicks, dings or breaks. The malachite pseudomorphs have velvet lustre, whilst the azurite blades are lustrous like polished glass. For me, this is a memorable specimen.
