Description: This 1960's Remco Whirlybird Helicopter Toy has been RESTORED and it is fully functioning piece that has been CUSTOM REPAINTED. It is a great addition to any toy collection, especially for those who enjoy vintage toys. Manufactured by REMCO in the 1960’s of this toy is REMCO and it was made in the USA. The original box is included. However, the original box shows obvious signs of wear and tear as well as damage and tears and rips and is in pretty bad shape, but it is still the original box that is for this exact toy from the 1960s. This toy operates with two D sized batteries (Batteries are included, but it is suggested to replace them anyway). The battery terminals show no signs of any corrosion or damage. The contact springs and terminals have been replaced as well as the battery door which opens and closes smoothly. The on / off switch and hoist chain lever also operates smoothly. REPLACED PARTS: A lot of moving parts were swapped out from a whirlybird that suffered significant fuselage damage, which was cracked and destroyed. I was lucky to find a 2nd Whirlybird that had most of its moving parts salvageable. The motor, the prop shafts, the prop pulleys and belts, the clear plastic cockpit canopy, The hoist chain gear assembly, the battery terminals, the ON / OFF switch as well as the UP / DOWN Lever ( for the rescue chain hoist), and the battery door and all of the mounting hardware for both shafts were all swapped out and installed on the Whirlybird that is for sale in this listing. The bird works as it should and is 100% fully functional. Sometimes the rescue chain hoist skips a tooth on the gear, but it depends on how much pressure you put on the lever. At first the bird had too much slack in the pulley belts which was why the props wouldn’t spin in the first place. Both propeller shafts run off of one motor. These belts are made by one long metal coiled spring connected at both ends that wrap around a grooved pulley on each shaft. One of these belts were longer than the other one making the front rotor blades spin faster than the rear rotor blades. It took some time to figure out but eventually brand new belts were ordered and installed correctly which made both rotor blade shafts run at the same exact speed. CUSTOM PAINT JOB: Originally this whirlybird was white with white rotor blades with red and blue stickers. Olive Drab and Medium Gray were the chosen colors that was used on exterior. Medium Gray for the undercarriage and Olive Drab for fuselage. Zinc Chromate Green was used on the interior areas of the helicopter. And the blades were repainted Gunmetal (silver, and black mixed). The fuselage received a coat of flat clear-coat and the rotor blades received a coat of semi-gloss clear-coat for future protection from the elements. Some of the original decals were left on, but most of them were unable to be saved. Custom decals were applied. Those decals came from an RC airplane of the same scale. Instead of U.S. Rescue Corps Air Force, “US Army 03E” was chosen. The enigma on the helicopter tail is a yellow naval anchor which was airbrushed on with stencils by hand. A lot of hours went into repairs and custom painting this toy to be truly one of a kind. Add this unique piece to your collection today.
