The model depicts "Saint" Eva (as Peron fancied her) aiding the poor. --- The fall of the Argentine dictator, Juan Peron, caused considerable embarrassment in Pietrasanta, Italy. For five years now, Professor Leone Tomasi, his son, Paolo and 24 marble workers have been making a colossal statue of the dictator, his late wife, Eva and clusters of symbolic figures. The statues were to weigh 30 tons. A 60 foot figure of Peron on a 100 foot marble base was to dominate the group. Now the Argentine embassy disclaims all responsibility for the work, because the commission came to Tomasi by direct emissary. The artisans employed by the sculptor have been thrown out of work, and Tomasi has lost of marble and many completed models on hand. Few things are worth less than statues of deposed dictators. Long believing that art and politics should not mix, Tomasi is sure of it. Photo measures 8.25 x 10 inches. Photo is dated 11-25-1955.
