Description: Retired teacher selling my library. This antique/ vintage advertising softcover book was published sometime between 1929 and 1939. Ivanhoe Foods made and marketed their Ivanhoe Mayonnaise only during the decade between 1929 and 1939 . When WWII broke out mayonnaise was considered a non-essential food item and was not manufactured during that period for the general public. Instead Ivanhoe Foods began dehydrating onions which were considered essential foods. The people of Auburn were encouraged by the maker and manufacturer, Mr. Meaker to endure the smell of onions that permeated the air. The Cayuga Museum of History attributes Meaker as saying, “Our onions are for field rations for our fighting men. When you smell onions, pray for peace.” Mr. Meaker's daughter, Harriet authored the book and it is written as if she were a mother writing recipes and tips about maintaining a healthy diet to her daughter, Margaret. Some sage advice that Mother gives Margaret in the February letter is "complexions are made at the table" and therefore Margaret should eat fresh salads daily. Pages 17 & 20 are black and white photos of recipes found within the pages of this book. The centerfold pages 18 and 19 are colored illustrations of the other recipes in the cookbook. Many of the recipes could be made more healthy by using avocado mayonnaise or coconut oil mayonnaise. Meaker included menus for luncheons and dinners, sandwiches, main dish salads and casseroles on pages 34 and 35. These are found among the photos as well as the illustrations and black and white photos. CREATIVE ADVERTISEMENT TO ENRICH HOMEMAKING EXPERTISE IN COOKERY. There is some discoloration inside the front pages. This booklet was provided to people in the Mansfield, PA area by the T. W.
