This volume contains narratives of voyages undertaken to Magellan's Straits coming after the earliest ones which have already been covered by the Hakluyt Society. Chapters in this book are on the expedition of Comendador Loaysa and Juan Sebastian del Cano, as well as a narrative by Captain Andres de Urdaneta; a description of the Strait by Pilot Martin de Uriate; a narrative of the voyage of the pinnace "Santiago"; narrative of the voyage of Alvarez de Sayavedra by Vicencio of Naples; an Introduction to the expedition of Simon de Alcazaba, and a narrative by Alonso (Veedor); an Introduction to the expedition sent by the Bishop of Plasencia; and an Introduction to the voyage of the Nodals. There are 3 fold-out maps, 2 of which are in colour, and 9 b/w illustrations.Mid blue hardboards with blind stamped decoration and a gilt illustration of the ship Victoria with gilt lettering on the spine. Browning/light foxing on the endpapers, prelims and flyleaf.
