Description: This is one of many great vintage & antique items I'm currently listing from various estates. Please take a look at my other merchandise at your leisure. You are bidding on:Antique RPPC Photo Postcard The Water Tower (Built 1905) at Madrid, Iowa ~ c1912 ~ Historic KRUXO postcard. This postcard is in great condition because it was once inside a white paper album assembled in the mid 1910s. There is some residue remaining on the back of card. The owner lived in Madrid and wrote "The water tower right on the edge of the ditch between north & south Madrid. You can just see the bridge railing on one side." IF you examine the close-up you'll see (on the left) the rails of the wooden wagon bridge on Water Street that crossed the CM&StP railroad tracks. That bridge was completed in 1894. It was remarkably short-lived because in 1911 and 1912 the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul and Pacific Railroad made its main line between Chicago and Omaha a double-track line. Since it ran through Madrid, the cut had to be widened and new bridges built. The railroad company required Madrid to replace the wooden bridges with concrete. So ~ I guess this image really dates a little earlier than 1915. Measures Approx. 3.5 x 5.5 InchesGood Vintage Condition. Please see scans for further details.
