Description: An unusual 1904 St. Louis World's Fair souvenir spoon featuring US General Ulysses S. Grant's log cabin and bearing his image surrounded by flags, a Springfield rifled musket, and a calvary saber. The spoon bears the following inscription read from left to right from top register to bottom, "GEN. GRANT'S LOG CABIN. WORLD'S FAIR 1904. BUILT BY HIM IN 1854. THEN OWNED BY [GF] BLANKE. ST. LOUIS. The cabin was erected on the fairgrounds by the Blanke Coffee Company to serve coffee and snacks to attendees. In all the years of collecting 1904 St. Louis World's Fair memorabilia, I have not seen a souvenir spoon from the Blanke Coffee Company dated from this time (only pocket knives and watch fobs dated post-fair-era). This spoon has seen better days with a bit of wear. It appears to be spelter metal finished over a brass base metal. Despite its condition, its scarcity and design elements are desirable for any collector of original and unusual world fair ephemeral artifacts. Will ship USPS with tracking to winning buyer DC/AC
