This book focuses on urban and industrial growth, giving details of the transformation of American cities from small settlements into bustling commercial and industrial hubs, highlighting advancements in transportation, trade, and infrastructure. As transcontinental railroads became more and more of a reality, distant parts of the country were connecting and spurring economic growth and facilitating commerce and communication across the nation. The westward expansion was opening up settlements in western territories, and this book features the establishment of the new towns and cities all across the West, including stunning illustrations and information all about many of the awe-inspiring natural wonders in our country’s National Parks. It strongly emphasizes our great civil and architectural landmarks, including the construction specifics of iconic public buildings, bridges, and monuments that symbolize American progress, including the Statue of Liberty, bridges, damns, notable government structures, and other architectural feats. In the review of our country’s historical events, it speaks of our many political achievements and all the work it took to get a democracy of our own. It walks the reader through the evolution of American democracy and government policies under various presidential administrations, including progress in civil rights and the legal system, among many other topics. This comprehensive work celebrates these and other milestones that helped shape America’s economic, social, and political landscape.
