DESCRIPTION: 192 pages + 16 page publisher’s catalogue in back and 224 pages + 14 page catalogue 7 1/2 x 5 3/8 inches antique hardcovers with Custom Slipcase CONDITION: Both books—which have matching original (same type and publisher) bindings in Christmas colors—have been rebound and recased into their original covers. The covers have been cleaned as much as conservatively possible. Both books have restoration work to the spine ends and corners, as wells the joints. There is some restoration of gilt on spine of LOOKING-GLASS. ALICE : The front endpaper has perished and replaced with handmade marbled paper, the rear endpaper was carefully bonded with light acid-free paper to preserve it and retained. There are two former owner’s names and addresses on the half-title pages. A few pages have edge repairs. LOOKING-GLASS has a new cloth spine on which the original spine has been carefully relaid. The spine are has some touch-up of the gilt in the top band. There is a gift inscription in ink dated 1890, on the second blank front endpaper. The endpapers are original and have the hinges reinforced with new, but similar paper. Pages in both volumes are generally clean. I try to keep paper repairs to a minimum and generally will repair all major flaws, but pass on minor ones. The paper is, of course, toned with age. The hinges and binding are excellent with no loose or missing pages. Slipcase is handmade by me. Built of acid free binder’s board, covered with marbled cloth and lined with real leather. It features 2 large leather hearts that match, in color, the bindings of the books. Please feel free to message me about any questions you may have.
