Description: They’re back! After a great deal of request, I’ve replenished stock of my late 19th century “campaigner quality” canteen cover sets. This early 1878 Indian Wars era canteen cover features the characteristic large, block US font attributed to the Rock Island Arsenal. In 1878, the very last of the Civil War era canteens were pulled from storage, modified to accept the new leather sling and spout ring, and covered with these unique covers at the RIA. They show up through the late Indian Wars period and even into the Spanish American War. The US stamp, laid on color matched, correct weight and weave cotton canvas, in indelible clothing ink. The set includes one duck canvas, full exterior cover and one full woolen interior cover of Family Heirloom Weavers flannel or Jean wool. The set includes one duck canvas, full exterior cover and one full woolen interior cover of Family Heirloom Weavers flannel or Jean wool. This cover is ideal for the 1858-78 style oblate canteen and is cut to the correct dimensions. Finished canteen is showed for reference ONLY…you will need to cover your own canteen with the items included. Note: canteen, strap, spout ring and cork NOT included…this listing is for the cover set itself.
