Description: 1870s Nevada Bank of San Francisco, Virginia, Nevada RN-G. Brunswick Mill. Lith. Britton, Rey & Co., SF. Unused (I have never seen an issued example). The Brunswick Mill was located on the Carson River one mile east of Empire City. It was built in 1864. In the time period of this check (early 1870s), it had 56 stamps, 26 pans, 13 settlers, and a 150-tons-a-day capacity. This check likely dates to c.1875, when the mill was taken over by Mackay, Fair, Flood, & O'Brien (Pacific Mill & Mining Co.) to process ore from the Con. Virginia "Bonanza."
