Description: Soursop/ Annona Muricata / Graviola / Guanabana You will receive a packet of 10 fresh Seeds from the fruit of our amazing Soursops growing in sunny Florida. Home grown naturally using regenerative methods with lots of love. You will receive super fresh viable seeds, from our most recent harvest (July 2024) that are ready to sow now. For best germination these seeds should be sowed right away and not stored for a long period of time. Growing Info & TipsSoursop is a small evergreen tropical that is native to Central and tropical South America. It is in the same genus, Annona, as cherimoya and is in the Annonaceae family. It can grow to up to 15-20' tall often with down-curved branching. It does best in the tropics and subtropics and thrives in warm humid conditions. Hardiness Zones 10-11. It is very frost sensitive and its shallow root system makes it vulnerable to wind damage. It produces stunning flowers. Each flower has three yellowish-green outer petals and three dull yellow inner petals and when pollinated will bear fruit in the summer and fall. The average fruit size is between 6-12" long to 4-6" wide with a weight to 8-15 pounds. Soursop is also easy to grow in a container and can thrive in a large pot. Soursops grown from seed produce their first crop three to five years from seeding. In the colder months, if temps drop below 41 degrees, they will loose their leaves, which will grow back in the spring. However, they should be overwintered indoors if temperatures approach frost risks. They do not like the cold! Soursop enjoys sun and does best in an area that’s sheltered/protected from the wind. It’s not too particular to soil types, but grows faster and produces more fruit with soil that’s been amended with organic matter. For Sowing the Soursop Seeds:Soursop seeds need warm, 80 degree range, temperatures to germinate. Sow the seeds 1/2 inch deep in pre-moistened potting mix in a small pot. Keep moist in partial shade until germination, when they can be moved to full sun exposure. Seeds can take 20-30 days to germinate so be patient! Soaking the seeds for 24 hours before sowing can speed up & increase germination success, and I do recommend doing this. Taste and PreparationThe fruits are heart-shaped with a thin green skin covered in soft fleshy spines that break off easily when the fruit is ripe. The fruit gets its name for its slightly sour yet fruity taste. The fruit from our soursops are more sweet than sour. I would describe the texture of the fruit to be creamy, soft, and gooey and the taste is uniquely its own somewhat like a combination of pineapple, strawberries and apple with sour citrus flavor notes. I love to enjoy this fruit as is, freshly picked and raw but it also makes a nice rich and creamy juice or can be used in smoothies etc. There are many studies on the benefits of soursop, please do your own research before consuming.
